Kherson Children’s Hospital

Since 1980, the windows in the surgical department of Kherson Regional Children’s Hospital had barely maintained room temperature and were difficult to open—many were even falling apart. These outdated windows not only let in the summer heat and winter cold but also compromised the comfort and safety of patients and staff. UCAF stepped in to replace the windows, installing modern, soundproof ones that preserve room temperature year-round and open easily. To honor this gift, Dr. Chernov, the head of the surgical department, placed a sticker on each window, proudly attributing the donation to the support of the American people.

The hospital also received a monumental upgrade in surgical technology. UCAF funded the department’s first laparoscopic equipment, marking a tremendous advancement for the surgical team. This equipment is especially beneficial for treating young patients, allowing doctors to perform delicate procedures with improved precision and significantly reducing recovery times. In addition to the main laparoscopic setup, UCAF also provided specialized tools necessary for the equipment’s operation. These essential tools, which require regular updates, enable the doctors to perform higher-quality surgeries for children across the Kherson region. Dr. Chernov expressed deep gratitude, sharing that this equipment allows his team to serve “little patients” with the level of care they deserve.

In neonatal care, UCAF further contributed by purchasing two medical hoods designed to help newborns breathe. These hoods are now a critical part of treating the hospital’s youngest and most vulnerable patients, bringing essential relief and stability to newborns requiring respiratory support.

UCAF’s support for the Kherson Regional Children’s Hospital reflects a commitment to improving children’s healthcare in Ukraine. By providing crucial infrastructure, technology, and tools, UCAF is helping create a safer, more advanced environment for the young patients of Kherson, offering them—and their families—hope and quality care.
